Award dedicated to institutions or companies that support the promotion of the sea resource and the dissemination of nautical culture.

The REFIBER project stood out among the more than 60 participants in the Bologna Boat Show for its attention to the age-old problem of the disposal of boats at the end of their life, a relevant environmental and socio-economic issue that requires a collective commitment as well as investment in research and development of new green technologies

Area Science Park and Innovando are, in fact, studying the technical, economic and legal feasibility to create a new national collective system for the decommissioning and management of the disposal of pleasure boats (range between 12 and 24 meters) and for the reuse of materials. Among these there is in particular fiberglass which with 60% represents the most abundant and most difficult fraction to treat, can be a resource from which to grow new business models for the entire supply chain.

The project is examining already consolidated schemes such as the EPR-Extended Producer Responsability, the extended responsibility of the producer, starting from the involvement of producers and distributors of pleasure boats, to give a concrete answer to the environmental and socio-economic problem connected to the decommissioning illegal hulls for which a structured model does not yet exist.
